TAUER MASAS IN THE HYPERFINITE II1 FACTOR

A Tauer masa in R is obtained by taking an increasing sequence of type In subfactors generating R and masas in each subfactor which form an increasing chain. We show that the Tauer masas have Pukánszky invariant {1} and that the concepts of singularity and strong singularity and the weak asymptotic homomorphism property are equivalent for these masas.
