Separating ideals in group algebras

Let G be a non-compact locally compact group and let A be a unital Banach algebra. We show that the only separating ideal in L1(G,A) is {0}. This entails that every epimorphism onto L1(G,A) and every derivation on L1(G,A) is continuous.
